Oriental clawed otter, Aonyx cinereus; synonymous: Aonyx cinerea also known as the Asian clawed Otter is the smallest otter in the world.
Oriental clawed otter can be found in the mangrove swamps and fresh wetlands of Bangladesh, southern India, China, Taiwan, Indochina, West Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Adults of this species otters can grow to the length of approximately 0.9 meters from nose to tip of the tail, and weigh about 5 pounds. They feed on fish, frogs, crabs, crayfish and shellfish.
This type of otters is striking for its distinctive paws; their claws do not extend over the fleshy pads of their fingers. These attributes provide a human-like efficiency in capturing and coordination to the point of using their paws feeding crabs, crabs and other small aquatic animals.www.ljubavstara.com
Oriental clawed otters live in extended family groups with a single alpha pair to mate, while previous adult cubs assist in raising new cubs.
